James Bond cast: Could THIS former reject become 007 after Daniel Craig?
James Bond has been played by brilliant actors like Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and now, Daniel Craig. However, Craig is now walking away from the franchise after his fifth film, No Time to Die. Now another actor will be taking over, and one former reject could become 007.
Daniel Craig obviously won the role of James Bond, but he fought against a very good-looking, charming Englishman: Henry Cavill.
Cavill screen-tested and was down to the final two, according to his own testimony, but was passed up because of his age.
However, he has not ruled out joining the franchise at a later date, given he is now one year younger than his rival was when he took on the role all those years ago.
Speaking about the role to Men’s Health, he said: “With the whole Bond process, I screen-tested many, many moons ago and it was, as far as I know, down to Daniel and myself – maybe one other.

“I think Daniel – sorry, Mr Craig – has done an incredible job of being Bond.
“And if it is indeed his last one, then the playing field is open.
“There are no conversations just yet, but we’ll see what happens.
“It would be a great, fun role to play.”
Evidently the idea of taking on the role of James Bond has not left Cavill’s mind, though according to another interview with the publication, there was a second reason for Cavill’s rejection.
In the interview, Cavill described part of the audition where he needed to walk out of a bathroom in just a towel.
When doing this, the response he got was not quite that he would have hoped for.
He said: “I probably could have prepared better.
“I remember the director, Martin Campbell, saying, ‘Looking a little chubby there, Henry.’
“I didn’t know how to train or diet. And I’m glad Martin said something, because I respond well to truth. It helps me get better.”
While he may have taken the criticism well, this likely would not have been the case for others, but he has said this has helped him in later roles.
He may have lost out to the lead roles in movies such as Twilight and Tristan and Isolde, but his being cast in movie Immortals helped him to work hard on his look, which then helped him land later roles as Superman and more recently Geralt in The Witcher.
Of course, no one would suggest Cavill does not have the body for James Bond in the future – if that is the direction they choose to go down.
At the moment, odds are also on James Norton, Sam Heughan and Idris Elba to potentially take over the role from Craig, as well as Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender or Aidan Turner.
Until his successor is chosen, however, Craig still has one more movie to go.
No Time to Die is out in cinemas in the UK on November 12
