Jamie Laing addresses Strictly curse: 'If it did happen it, would be a shame'
Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing has opened up about the dreaded Strictly Come Dancing curse ahead of the new series.
The reality TV star, who will make his Strictly debut next weekend, has been dating Sophie Habboo for almost a year.
And while he insists he isn’t worried about the Strictly curse, he confessed if it did happen, ‘it would be a shame’.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of the dancing competition, Jamie explained that he and his girlfriend haven’t spoken ‘too much’ about the curse.
‘We didn’t speak too much about the Strictly curse,’ he began.
‘I’m very lucky to be with my girlfriend, she is a lot better than me, than I am in every single way, so I don’t worry about a Strictly curse.
‘If any Strictly curse did happen, it would be a complete shame, so I don’t think it will ever happen.’
The Strictly curse has claimed many victims over the years, with Katya Jones and Neil Jones being the latest.
Last year the professional dancers announced their decision to split in an emotional Instagram statement after 11 years together.
The breakdown of their marriage came a year after Katya was snapped kissing her dance partner Seann Walsh.
In 2019, it was also revealed Strictly star Stacey Dooley had split from her long-term boyfriend of three years.
Jamie, who was due to appear in the competition last year, was forced to pull out because of an injury and was replaced by Kelvin Fletcher – who went on to win it.
Speaking about the pressure he feels to do well, Jamie continued: ‘I feel like he has really put the pressure on me to do well this year, but also I feel like everyone should thank me because I gave strictly Kelvin Fletcher.
As well as Jamie, Jason Bell, JJ Chalmers, Max George, Bill Bailey and HRVY are the guys about to jump and jive their way in an effort to win the glitterball.
While Nicola Adams, Maisie Smith, Caroline Quentin, Clara Amfo, Jacqui Smith and Ranvir Singh will be all representing the girls on this year’s line-up.
Strictly Come Dancing kicks off on October 17 on BBC One.
