Kate Garraway says her husband Derek Draper is suffering "worrying lows" as he continues his fight against coronavirus in hospital.

Derek, 53, has becoming the UK's longest surviving coronavirus patient still receiving treatment in hospital after being admitted back in March.

He is now free of the deadly bug, but doctors are concerned his body may not recover from the damage caused by complications of the virus.

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate, also 53, took to the ITV breakfast show on Thursday morning to give viewers an update on her husband's health.

When asked how she and Derek are by co-host Susanna Reid, Kate said: "I'm doing okay. thank you.

"Laura [Tobin] arranged for me to have a massage on Tuesday evening so everyone's on board with the supporting Kate thing. I'm very, very lucky.

"Derek has had… the problem is, I feel like I'm just boring everyone to death really, because it ends up with the same thing which is stable.

"But, actually, in between when I'm not talking to you, there are big ups and big downs.

"Not big ups really, small improvements and worrying downs. But the last few days have been pretty stable so we're keeping everything crossed really."

Susanna reassured her friend she isn't boring her co-stars or viewers, telling her: "It's not boring anybody, I know you are concerned about that."

She told Gardeners' World: "It was rather sad because the radishes came, they're one of Derek's favourite vegetables, and we ate them and he still wasn't better.

"So I then thought, we've got to go more long-term, planting things that were going to take longer to bear fruit.

"And I'd say, 'Dad will be better by then'… And of course now that it's been so long, we've got a huge basket of bulbs, so that when dad comes home, the place will be full of colour."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
