Kelly Ripa hires son Michael, 22, as Live with Kelly and Ryan producer while he lives at home – The Sun
KELLY Ripa hired her eldest son, Michael, 22, as a Live with Kelly and Ryan producer while he's living at home.
She said he had been producing her portion of the show in quarantine, and now he has a job before he graduates college.
Kelly told her co-host, Ryan Seacrest, on the show today: “If I’m being honest, he’s been producing my end of this show.
“So he really is sort of working while he’s finishing [school] because he’s set to ‘graduate’ from college.
"But I said to him, ‘Well, look at you. I mean, here you are. You’ve got a job before graduation. That’s got to make you feel good.’ He’s like, ‘Uh, yeah.'”
Before the outbreak of the coronavirus, Kelly said of Michael's financial situation living on his own in Brooklyn: “He is chronically poor.
“I don’t think he’s ever really experienced extreme poverty like now.”
But these days everyone is home quarantining together and Kelly said her children “actually enjoying themselves.”
Michael later chimed in on the show today he is "most certainly not enjoying his time in quarantine.”
Kelly and her husband Mark recently celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary while in quarantine.
She said the circumstances took “the pressure off of having to get a present."
She and the family did have a "really really nice" dinner together to mark the occasion.
It's a big improvement from when tensions were recently high with everyone under one roof.
The emotional host said on the show that her children were refusing to hug her.
She said: “I’m not going to lie, okay?
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: I’m currently not speaking to two of my three kids.
I’m not talking to two of them."
She went on: “I haven’t gotten to hug my parents. I want to hug my parents. I miss hugging my parents.
“And my kids, like, won’t hug me. And I’m like, ‘Guys, we’ve all been in lockdown together. We’re fine. You can give me a hug. It’s fine.'”
