Lucifer’s Dan Espinoza star teases ‘dream role’ away from Netflix series ‘Love to’

Lucifer: Netflix release preview teaser of conversation with God

Kevin Alejandro’s time on the popular Netflix series could be coming to an end sooner than later as plenty of fans have predicted the death of his character, Dan Espinoza, in season five. As Lucifer gets ready to release the final eighteen episodes, the principal star has already started eying his next projects.

Dan Espinoza star Kevin Alejandro has given some indication of what could be in store for his acting career once production wraps on the sixth and final season of Lucifer.

The star has been a mainstay since the supernatural series began on Fox in 2016, portraying arguably the most persistent human rival of the devil, Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis).

Lucifer’s sixth and final season is expected to drop on Netflix later this year, leaving the cast open to pursue their dream roles now the series has catapulted them to success.

Alejandro recently indicated he could be making a return to theatre when he spoke to Da Man magazine.

When asked about his ideal project, the star replied: “I would love to play the titular character of Macbeth.

“That is a role that always connected to me for one reason or another and I would love the opportunity to play it either in film or on stage.

“My dream is to do it on film but I would take any chance I could to play that character.”

Theatres have suffered hugely as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but William Shakespeare’s dark tragedy remains on the most popular stage plays to this day.

Of course, as one of the world’s most iconic stories, there’s also a chance Alejandro could sign on to a new adaptation for film or television.

He also recalled getting his start on the stage, making a potential transition back to theatre not as out of left field as some might think.

Alejandro explained: “The most challenged I’ve ever been was doing a play, it was Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov as an MFA project at the University of Texas at Austin and I played Dmitri, one of the lead brothers.

“That really challenged me to my utmost and I was exhausted every night after every performance. That was the changing point in what I realized I could do.”

His thoughts somewhat echoed those of his co-star Tom Ellis, who has been largely unable to return to the stage after his TV career took off.

Since landing smaller roles in the likes of 24, NCIS and CSI through the 2000s, Alejandro has now become a sought after supporting star and occasional leading man.

The star fronted the cast of A&E’s supernatural series The Returned, had a long-running role in vampire franchise True Blood, and showed up multiple times in superhero show Arrow as the villainous Brother Blood.

On the big screen, he most recently co-starred in romantic drama The Lost Husband, alongside Leslie Bibb and Josh Duhamel.

Appearing in every episode of Lucifer so far, his role as Dan Espinoza has been a substantial commitment over the last six years.

While his schedule will certainly be cleared following the conclusion of season six, some fans have predicted his character could be for the chop in the unreleased second half of Lucifer’s fifth season.

Netflix have yet to confirm when the successful fantasy drama will make its long-awaited return, but Alejandro may be free to pursue his dream role sooner rather than later.
