Mrs Brown’s Boys spin-off show axed by BBC due to coronavirus restrictions

Mammy is being shelved by the BBC.

Daily Star can reveal this year’s series of Mrs Brown's Boys chat show All Round to Mrs Brown’s has been axed.

Bosses have had to scrap the show, which stars Brendan O’Carroll as "mammy” Mrs Agnes Brown, due to coronavirus.

A TV insider said: "Execs have tried just about everything to get this year’s series made, but the restrictions have made it impossible.

"It’s the first year since the show started that it won’t be airing.

“It’s such a shame for everyone involved and of course its millions of viewers."

All Round To Mrs Brown’s usually airs in the spring and pulls in bumper ratings for the Beeb.

Losing it from the schedule has caused a major headache for execs. A BBC spokesman last night confirmed the chat show won’t air this year.

But he promised that fans will still be able to get their fix of Mrs Brown.

A statement said: "While All Round To Mrs Brown’s will not be returning this year, fans need not worry as some very exciting Mrs Brown news is coming very soon."

The sitcom is still due to return to screens on Christmas Day for its annual festive show.

We reported earlier this year that All Round To Mrs Brown’s is facing the axe due to coronavirus.

A show source said in February: "This year’s series of the chat show is hanging in the balance. It’s not known if it can go ahead or not."

"The cast were able to film two festive specials of Mrs Brown’s Boys last autumn because there were fewer restrictions at the time and the cast were able to form a bubble.

"But making the chat show with different guests every episode is much more difficult to pull off in the current climate."

It is the latest setback for the comedy which has suffered a string of blows in recent months.

Two stars left the cast in the autumn last year and the show’s festive specials were a ratings flop, with the lowest viewing figures for a decade.
