MTV fires Siesta Key’s Alex Kompothecras and will edit current season to minimize his role after ‘racist’ Instagram post – The Sun

MTV announced it cut ties with longtime Siesta Key star, Alex Kompothecras, after past alleged racist behavior on social media recently resurfaced.

The 25-year-old original cast member of the series came under fire when fans shared his alleged use of the N-word, among other racial slurs, on Instagram.

MTV’s announcement came on the same night the mid-season premiere aired.

The reality series had filmed it’s third season months ago, which meant Alex would still appear in upcoming episode.

After viewers tuned into tonight’s show – which was slashed in half – they noticed Alex’s role had been significantly trimmed.

The media giant cleared up speculation: “We’ve made the decision to cut ties with Alex and are editing the current season to minimize his presence.

“He will not be in future seasons of Siesta Key,” they tweeted on Tuesday.

Instead of the two one-hour episodes that were originally scheduled back to back, only one aired that was 54-minutes long.

The back of Alex’s head was shown in one scene, while other parts he was more prominently in were seemingly taken out.

In addition to having his role reduced, producers also already scrapped his name from the opening credits.

MTV also removed Alex’s bio and pictures from their website.

Internet users uncovered a photo where Alex allegedly wrote the N-word and also claimed he commented laughing emoji’s on several other posts that used offensive racial slurs.

On Thursday, the Floridian and his girlfriend, Alyssa Salerno, welcomed their first child together, Alessi.

The YouTuber was also set to appear on this season of Siesta Key as film crew’s were going to follow their lives as new parents.

Alex has not yet publicly commented on his former boss’ statement but posted a picture of his newborn earlier today.

The surprise change comes days after the network fired former The Challenge star Dee Nguyen for her past “racist” behavior.

She made a series of insensitive comments, including one that claimed "people die every f***ing day,” regarding the Black Lives Matter movement.

Though the pre-taped season will continue, the 27-year-old Australian will not be attending the upcoming reunion special that has yet to take place and will not return to the series.

Before last week’s episode of The Challenge aired, MTV showed a disclaimer that confirmed the reality star was no longer part of the program.

The text, written on a plain background, read: “As a result of Dee Nguyen’s offensive comments on the Black Lives Matter movement, we have severed ties with her.

“Out of respect for the competition and other Challengers, MTV will air the season as planned.

“Dee Nguyen will NOT appear in the reunion to be filmed at a later date

“Out of respect for the competition and other Challengers, MTV will air the season as planned,” the network concluded.
