Nadia Sawalha and Kaye Adams to throw massive tantrums to be GC on Celeb Circle

Loose Women stars Nadia Sawalha and Kaye Adams plan to release their inner divas by pretending to be Gemma Collins on The Celebrity Circle.

And they know exactly what to do to channel the GC… learn how to throw a tantrum.

“The thing is, Gemma has massive tantrums. She does. We’ve got to be authentic in case there’s somebody in there that actually knows her,” says Nadia.

“The GC is a very complex character. I’ve met her a number of times on Loose Women and she’s just got this incredibly strong presence where she owns the room.

“The good thing about her is she does have two sides to her – Gemma and The GC, so I think that’s quite a good little secret weapon.

“If we say something and it didn’t sound like last time, we can just decide if it’s Gemma or the GC talking. It’s almost like playing two people.”

Nadia and Kaye are joining several other stars, including Denise Van Outen, Charlotte Crosby, and Drag Race UK’s Baga Chipz, for The Celebrity Circle.

The show is in aid of Stand Up to Cancer, and sees celebrities playing themselves – or catfishing as another famous person – in a bid to be voted most popular.

Contestants spend six days locked in a flat with no contact with the outside world in order to play the game.

And Nadia plans to go “fully GC” so her and Kaye will win.

She says: “I’m going to inhabit the character completely – I’m going to be wanting a foot rub every day, wear turbans, pink lipstick, nail varnishes, drink Sex on the Beach cocktails, the lot.

“Kaye and I will throw ourselves into it 100%, we aren’t afraid of making fools of ourselves.”

Meanwhile, Kaye has been researching the GC’s enemies to ensure that the pair will be successful catfishes.

She says: “We’re going to have to see who she’s had recent spats and feuds with.

“So who’s in the Gemma camp and who’s very much out of it at the moment, because I think once she decides that you’re out, you’re out.”

“The funny thing is, we both separately thought of playing Gemma at exactly the same time,” adds Nadia.

“She’s a hugely popular person. I think even people that hate her, love her. Even when she behaves outrageously, it’s funny. How she gets away with the diva-esque persona, I’ll never know.”

The Celebrity Circle sees contestants use social media to communicate with other contestants.

And Nadia, who regularly post body confident pics online, admits she is “a bit addicted” to her socials.

“I do think I’m a bit addicted – I definitely spend too much time on it,” she says.

“Not having my phone while taking part in The Celebrity Circle does worry me, I’m scared about not being able to use my social media.”

Nadia has almost 375,000 Instagram followers, including other celebrities.

She reveals: “I was really chuffed to bits when Millie Bobby Brown followed me, and Kate Beckinsale, who’s my female crush followed me, so that was pretty cool.

“We have a mutual affection for each other, and I can’t wait until this is over and we an actually meet. I love her, and she’s everything I would want my girls to be.”

Nadia says on the whole she has had a positive experience with using social media – but her pet peeve is people using filters.

“I’ve had enormous nourishment from social media. I follow some great accounts and I don’t respond or listen to trolls,” she adds.

“There have been very few. We’ve got over 115,000 subscribers on our YouTube channel, over 370,000 on my Instagram, and I could count on one hand the amount of times people have been unpleasant, so I actually do have a really good experience and I am very thankful for that.

“However, I get annoyed when there’s too much filtering without people, especially those in the public eye, saying they’ve used one.

“It plays with your mind, because on the days when you’re not looking at the filtered picture, it can actually really affect your mental health. I think we really have to investigate them more.”

Kaye has had trolling due to her Scottish radio show The Kaye Adams Programme, but has various methods of dealing with it.

“I’ve gone through stages,” she explains. “I’ve ignored it completely, I’ve blocked, I’ve engaged with it, I’ve got upset but I’ve not got upset. I’ve been around the houses with the right way to deal with, and currently if there’s a comment that I think I can work with I’ll post a little jibe.”

Kaye's also concerned about cancel culture. “That is an element that takes the fun out of social media,” she says.

“That’s why I would probably start to retreat from it a little bit, because I just can’t be bothered.

“I am much more wary of the extent to which social media can be manipulated and exploited, and how we can be exploited as a result, so I view it with extreme caution.”

While taking part in The Celebrity Circle, the pair will be watched by cameras 24/7 in their flat.

But Kaye reckons the pair aren’t worried about what they look like first thing.

“I’m not worried about looking like sh*t, because I’m over that one,” she says.

“I know there are times they’ll get me first thing in the morning, and it will be like ‘oh my god, switch the telly off’, so that’s OK, I don’t mind that.

“But I’m a bit strange about privacy. I won’t be getting naked – I’m quite prudish about that!”.

But Nadia’s biggest concern is being “boring” on telly.

She says: “I’m very open on my social media, so people have seen it all really.

“I am worried about being boring, but I think that’s unlikely.

“I just think you have to be a little bit careful not to let down your guard completely, and that is difficult when you’ve got such a close friendship as Kaye and I have. We’ll just forget that we are actually on telly.”

*The Celebrity Circle airs on Channel 4 soon (note to subs tx date won’t be confirmed until Wednesday).
