‘No one has the answer’ Priti Patel in astonishing admission as government eases lockdown
Lorraine wasted no time in quizzing Ms Patel about Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s plans to ease lockdown after he revealed his “conditional plan” on Sunday evening. The ITV host explained she expected the government would “have a fight on your hands” as “teachers unions are saying they won’t cooperate” with the plans to begin sending children back to school. Ms Patel insisted she was optimistic and “safety was the most important thing” but admitted “no one has the answers” as to how to end lockdown in the best way.
Lorraine asked: “Is this too much too soon?”
Ms Patel replied: “When we bring schools back on stream, and that will happen in a phased way, there’s no big bang to this, it;s got to happen in a responsible way.
“We will do that with the teaching unions and the teaching profession and of course I think we all recognise now, social distancing is here to stay.
“Our lives are going to be very different and as we open society up, and that’s effectively what we are speaking about now, I think it’s really important, people’s lives have been on hold.

“Our children are not getting the education they want, they’re not getting to see their friends, we’re not seeing our friends and family.
“That’s hard so we’ve got to work together, be really responsible, support each other.
“No one has the answer to any of this right now, there’s no silver bullet, so we’ve got to cooperate and collaborate and work together to make this happen.”
