NXIVM sex cult survivor breaks silence on harrowing escape in new true crime doc Seduced

AN NXIVM sex cult survivor has broken her silence on her harrowing escape in new true crime documentary, Seduced.

India Oxenberg joined NXIVM in 2011 aged 19, believing it was a self-help group and business programme.

However, she had actually been brainwashed into joining a sex cult which saw its leader abuse members and India became part of the DOS, an inner group of women whose sole purpose was to fulfill the desires of the cult's leader, Keith Raniere.

India had his initials branded onto her crotch and Raniere also controlled her diet, allowing her only 500 calories a day.

India's story is explored in new documentary, Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult, and in a chat with Metro.co.uk, India opened up about how she finally escaped the cult in 2018.

She said: "It wasn’t that conscious [to leave], but when I was living in Albany, I was one of the last people to be there.

"People were leaving left and right, and I was still there which is shocking to me now, but made sense, knowing what I was going through."

Raniere was aided by Smallville actress Allison Mack, and both were charged for their crimes last year.

India referred to Allison as she recalled her escape, saying how she wanted to move to New York to get work.: "And she said OK, and when I left, I took everything that I thought was of importance, as if I was never coming back.

"There was a part of me that was consciously trying to distance myself, but it wasn’t actually until the summer of 2018 that I really started to question [everything]."

Raniere is due to be sentenced for his crimes later this month on October 27 after being found guilty last year of sexual exploitation of a child, sex trafficking, racketeering, possession of child pornography and identity theft.

Meanwhile Mack, who used her influence in Hollywood to sign others up to the sex trafficking ring, pleaded guilty to her crimes and was charged with a series of racketeering offences.

Seduced: Inside The NXIVM Cult launches on October 18 on Starzplay.
