‘Outer Banks’: Will There Be a Season 2?
Once again, Netflix has come through for viewers during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic with another binge-worthy series — Outer Banks. If you’ve fallen in love with the cast of the series, you’re not alone. Fans are wondering if and when there will be a Season 2 of the show — here’s what we know.
[Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t finished Season 1 of Outer Banks, spoilers ahead.]
‘Outer Banks’ Season 1
The first season of Outer Banks follows a group of four friends who fondly refer to themselves as “Pogues” because of their societal status. Leader of the Pogues John B (Chase Stokes) uncovers a message from his presumed-dead father that compels him to seek out the Royal Merchant gold that was buried somewhere on the island.
With the help of his friends Kie (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and JJ (Rudy Pankow), John B invests his entire self in trying to find this treasure. Along the way, he falls in love with a “Kook” (re: rich kid) named Sarah (Madelyn Cline) and gets into plenty of trouble, too.
The show ended exactly where it began — with John B on the hunt for the gold his father was after, except this time, he knows exactly where to find it.
Outer Banks Season 2 has not been confirmed
Despite the lack of confirmation from Netflix, the second season of Outer Banks is likely. Taking into consideration the massive fan base the show has cultivated and the fact that the show has been trending on social media, Netflix will most likely want to capitalize on that.
What’s more, Jonas Pate, the showrunner of Outer Banks, told USA Today that he is already writing Season 2. “It turns out being quarantined and writing is practically the same,” Pate joked. “With all the turmoil over the first season, from the loss of his father to his friends thinking he is dead, there are just so many variables to look at from a thousand-foot overview.”
Pate and his collaborators Josh Pate and Shannon Burke imagined the show to be a “four season-novel,” which means fans can potentially expect three more seasons of the Netflix series in the future.
The ‘Outer Banks’ cast are eager to get back to work
Like the rest of the world, the cast of Outer Banks is staying home. Since the show premiered, they’ve been taking to Instagram Live to interact with their fans and share updates about the future of the series.
“It’s wild how it is all happening,” Stokes told Star News Online. “It has been a transition of life even with the quarantine.” Cline reiterated that sentiment, thankful that the cast has been able to go through the experience together. “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, so it’s been nice to have each other to lean on and goof around with,” she added.
Cline attributed the success of the series to its surrealness. “I think it is an escapist show,” — something audiences everywhere are looking to do right now. “People have become very invested in the characters and the friendships, which is cool because those are our friendships in real life.”
When asked about the prospect of another season, the cast couldn’t have been more excited. “I will freak out if we go to the Bahamas,” Pankow said. “I thought I was living the dream already, but going to the Bahamas would be the absolute peak.”
“The first season only took place over a few days, so they are in this whirlwind romance brought together by a crazy adventure and a traumatic experience,” Cline said. “What will it mean when the conflict of everything they are running from catches up to them?”
Fans are hoping to find out!
When to expect ‘Outer Banks’ Season 2
When fans can expect another season of Outer Banks is another story. Considering all of the dilemmas the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has created for the streaming platform, it’s safe to assume the cast and crew won’t be able to start filming another season of Outer Banks for some time.
