Starz drama Power Book II: Ghost may only have premiered last week but the writers are already ramping up the action. Tasha St Patrick (played by Naturi Naughton) will be battling to save her life in the courtroom after Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) brought kingpin charges against her which carried the death penalty. Her legal team and attorney Davis Maclean (Cliff “Method Man” Smith) will be trying to put their defence case together.

US network Starz has dropped a short synopsis and the promo trailer for the forthcoming instalment which will see Tasha under fire.

The episode summary reads: “Tariq [Michael Rainey Jr] struggles with the weight of providing for his mother’s mounting legal defense while juggling the rigors of Ivy League life.”

While the teaser sees Tasha confronted by Davis and investigator Paula (Sherri Saum), who tells her they need something to bolster her case.

Tasha demands to be put on the stand in a bid to convince the jury of her lies.

However, Paula is not buying Tasha’s story and tells Davis: “She hasn’t been straight with us from the beginning.”

Over Paula’s words, a hand throws wads of dollar bills into a duffle bag, alluding to Tasha’s life of crime.

Tasha is continuing to build up alliances in prison as she struggled to survive.

On the outside, Tariq is struggling to cover the legal fees and says: “I need a lot more money than this to help my mum.”

Although Tariq is later in the company of Monet Tajada (Mary J. Blige) and her daughter Diana (LaToya Tonodeo), it’s clear the queenpin is not impressed with the college student.

She warns Diana: “Anybody who’s around Tariq is either dead or locked up.”

The trailer escalates with scenes of violence and Tariq fleeing from a group of people.

Monet could also find herself in trouble when her lover tells her: “The way you’re running things ain’t working.”

The video ends on a cliffhanger as Monet walks in and warns her family: “Y’all got 10 seconds to tell me what the f*** is going on here.”

Secrets appears to be withheld from the matriarch which could cause problems for her.

The next instalment follows on from this week’s episode which saw Tasha make something of a misstep after she referred to her dead husband James “Ghost” St Patrick (Omari Hardwick) by his street moniker.

Paula picked on the slip up straight away and tried to get more out of Tasha, who admitted she may have helped out with the business from time to time.

This revelation angered Davis further as it appeared he was still in the dark about Tasha and who she really is.

If Davis does find out the truth about Tasha and Ghost’s criminal enterprises, there’s nothing stopping him from walking away for good.

Paula tried to tell Davis this but he seems to be sticking by his client for the moment, something which could be an error of judgement and potentially destroy his career.

Saxe also twigged there was no way to prove Tasha wasn’t the queenpin behind Ghost and Tommy Egan’s (Joseph Sikora) drug business, so she could conceivably go down for it.

But there’s likely to be quite a few twists and turns with nothing straight forward.
