In exclusive comments for Power Book II, star Andrea Lee Christensen teased the fallout for Riley and Cooper Saxe’s devious scheme to take down Tariq in the first half of season one. Ahead of the spin-off’s return to Starz in December, the series newcomer revealed some tantalising details to Express.co.uk.

Riley Saxe-Merchant (played by Andrea Lee Christensen) could face dire consequences for her role in sabotaging Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) in the thrilling first season of Starz’ Power spin-off.

In Book II: Ghost, Tariq follows in the footsteps of his father, Ghost (Omari Hardwick) after it was revealed he was the one who pulled the trigger at the end of season six.

After his mother, Tasha (Naturi Naughton) took the fall for the murder, the freshman student struggles to balance his studies with his new business venture with queenpin Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige).

Before the first five episodes came to a catastrophic end, corrupt lawyer Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) conspired with his niece, Riley, to pin Ghost’s murder on the true culprit.

The pair managed to spike Tariq to get him drunk enough to confess to the crime, and Riley was able to activate a tracker on his phone to allow Saxe to follow Ghost’s son and capture his intoxicated ramblings on film.

Power: Book II’s second half of the first season is set to unfold Saxe’s scheme with shady defense attorney Davis Maclean (Method Man) to land the heir of Ghost’s empire behind bars.

Unfortunately, coronavirus delays have subjected eager fans to an unexpected hiatus before the next five episodes get underway at the beginning of December.

As hype starts to build for Power’s return, principal star Andrea Lee Christensen spoke to Express.co.uk with the lowdown on her character Riley’s role in the upcoming instalment.

Christensen revealed: “Riley is a bit of a wild card, which makes her really fun to play.”

Fans have already taken a disliking to Saxe’s niece after her reckless behaviour and callous treatment of Tariq in the first season.

Whether or not the pair will reconcile or Riley will continue to play lackey to Saxe’s underhand schemes is still to be confirmed.

However, her relationship with Tariq’s roommate Brayden (Gianni Paolo) could eventually lead to her switching her loyalties.

Christensen continued: “She doesn’t always think things through, she sees opportunities and she takes them. But at the same time, the attraction she feels to Brayden is real.

“So she’s definitely in over her head, and doesn’t really know the extent of the situation Saxe got her into.”

The star’s words indicated Riley could experience a revelation of sorts when she finally realises what her actions mean for the lives of her college friends.

Moreover, if Brayden exposes her alliance with Saxe, he’s far more likely to side with his roommate and business partner in the subsequent dispute.

Riley still has her own future to think of, and burning bridges with her fellow students could have disastrous results for her first steps into adulthood.

Book II has since been renewed for a second season, and the show restarted filming last month following Power’s COVID-19 hiatus.

With more spin-offs on the way, the St. Patrick legacy will continue to expand long after the death of Power’s complex anti-hero, Ghost.

Power Book II: Ghost season 1 will continue on Sunday, December 6 on Starz and Starzplay.
