Prince Harry Just Made a Surprise Appearance on a British Dancing Show

Prince by day, dancer by night. Well, Prince Harry wasn’t actually dancing during his appearance on the BBC show, Strictly Come Dancing, but he was supporting his friend, Invictus Games medalist, JJ Chalmers, who was competing on the show. Harry was on the Nov. 14 episode via a video chat with JJ and his dance partner, Amy Dowden.

“We’ve got somebody here who wants to see you,” Amy teased before Harry called into the U.K.’s version of Dancing with the Stars. JJ replied, “You’re kidding!” Harry then appeared on the call and talked about how far his friend has come since he suffered severe injuries to his arms, face, and legs while serving with the elite Royal Marines in Afghanistan.

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance on @bbcstrictly tonight to (virtually) cheer on pal, former @RoyalMarines and @WeAreInvictus medalist @JJChalmersRM, who is competing on the show. “I’m so proud, genuinely proud that here you are in this position now,” the duke told him.

“When I first met JJ, he was a shell of himself, but then to see you shine through Invictus and feel like yourself again, that was the start of an amazing journey,” Harry said. “I’m so genuinely proud. You’re not a dancer, proving that you can do anything you put your mind to, which is amazing.”

JJ then explained that Harry’s invention of the Invictus Games, which is an international adaptive multi-sport event, in which wounded, injured, or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sporting events. “The simple fact is, if Prince Harry had not created the Invictus Games I would not have had that catalyst moment that changed my life forever,” JJ said. “I wouldn’t be here without him.”

If this means one day Prince Harry will make an actual reality show debut, we’ll definitely be watching.
