Snowpiercer TV Show Gets Intense And Violent New Trailer

The upcoming series Snowpiercer is based on Bong Joon-ho’s acclaimed 2013 movie about a huge train that races through a modern Ice Age, keeping its passengers safe from the uninhabitable world outside. The show hits screens later this month, and ahead of that, a new trailer has been released.

The new Snowpiercer trailer suggests that the series will have the same mix of dark social satire and violent sci-fi action as the movie. The cast is led by Jennifer Connelly (Alita: Battle Angel), who plays Melanie Cavill, a first class passenger who is also the voice of the the train, making regular announcements to its passengers. Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Blindspottting) co-stars as Layton Well, who lives in harsh conditions at the other end of the train and is planning an uprising. Check the trailer out below:

Snowpiercer also stars Mickey Summer (American Made), Annalise Basso (Slender Man), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), and Timothy V. Murphy (Sons of Anarchy). The showrunner is Orphan Black co-creator Graeme Manson, who replaced Josh Friedman on Snowpiercer after he was fired over “creative differences.” The show premieres on TNT on May 17. Season 2 has also been greenlit, with Sean Bean reportedly set to join the cast.

TNT also recently released a timeline that reveals how the show fits in chronologically alongside the movie. It takes place seven years after the Extinction Event, which is the environmental catastrophe that turned the world into a frozen wasteland, and eight years before the events of the film. In addition, the timeline also includes various Snowpiercer comic books. Three comics were published at the time of the movie–Escape, The Explorers, and Terminus–and these will be joined by the new three-part series Snowpiercer: The Prequel.
