Spoilers: James loses everything in Corrie after homophobic attack?
Ever since he knew he was gay, James Bailey (Nathan Bailey) has been worried about coming out in Coronation Street – both due to the reaction of his dad Edison (Trevor Michael Georges) and also at the prospect of losing his promising football career.
Coronation Street recently aired scenes which saw him open up to his dad about his sexuality – and while Ed’s reaction has caused a rift between them (and also ruined a potential romance for James), the football club have so far been supportive to him.
However, things are about to take an ugly turn when a supposed fan of the club lets rip at James with some vile homophobic slurs as he emerges from the changing room.
As Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) chats to James about his last match, a County fan approaches and launches a tirade of homophobic abuse at James. Tim steps in and restrains James, whose emotions understandably explode.
But as James calms down, he begins to worry that this incident won’t be a one off – and fears that his career will always be defined by his sexuality.
Worried that altercations like this will be negative for the club, is James right to be concerned that bosses might reconsider him as part of the squad?
Or will they stand by and support him amid the disgusting bigotry from some fans?
