Spoilers: Seriously ill Oliver faces death as he is rushed to hospital
There are heartwrenching scenes in Coronation Street as parents Leanne Tilsley (Jane Danson) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) will be forced to endure the agony of seeing their ill young boy Oliver rushed into intensive care as he can’t stop fitting.
Oliver had previously suffered a seizure but doctors told them that this didn’t necessarily mean that anything was wrong with him – and their efforts have been concentrated on bickering over who is best placed and most responsible to look after him.
But all of that is set to pale into insignificance when panic ensues as Oliver suffers a second serious seizure. Paramedics arrive and Oliver’s convulsing is brought under control but doctors are concerned and want to carry out tests to find out what is going on with him.
As Leanne and Steve fear the worst, Jane admits that at first, Leanne tries to cling to hope. The actress said: ‘At this point it’s not concrete, so there’s a little part of her that thinks he could be fine.
‘It’s partly denial but I think that’s your instinct as a human being, survival and to believe that anything might be possible. But as time goes on I think that positivity starts to diminish.’
This only gets worse when Oliver takes a much more serious ill turn and nobody can stop the fitting, even when he arrives at hospital.
As Steve and Leanne are frantic and don’t know if he will come out of this alive, Oliver is rushed into intensive care.
But what will his diagnosis be – and will he survive? Or will Leanne and Steve face their darkest days as a devastating tragedy rips the heart out of their world?
