Unfortunately, the interview didn’t go too smoothly as Julian took a swipe at the Sunday Brunch hosts as he admitted he couldn’t remember who was who. Tim begged the guest to “be kind” to him as he insisted he was always “hammered” by Julian when they spoke.

“Good morning! What a shame I’m not there on the corduroy sofa with you both,” Julian began.

Tim replied: “That’s how we feel too, we always enjoy your company in the studio.”

“Well you’ve made an effort for me,” Julian continued. “Did you go down the market for that T-shirt?”

Tim and Simon burst into laughter with the former noting: “Julian every time I talk to you, you hammer me.

“It’s not fair. Be kind to me. I’m delicate.”

Julian hit back: “Well I am being kind to you. The genius of you two is your ordinariness.

“I mean that in a kind way. We can all relate to a couple of geezers reclining on a corduroy sofa. It’s what the nation wants on a Sunday morning.”

Simon told his co-host: “I think that’s a compliment Tim.”

Julian assured: “That is a compliment. Is his name Tim? I never know what your names are.”

“Yeah, I’m TV’s Tim Lovejoy,” Tim said raising his hand with Simon adding: “I’m Simon Rimmer.

“I don’t pretend to be TV’s Simon Rimmer.”

Julian exclaimed: “So Tim and Simon. How lovely for you!”

Taking to Twitter to comment on the awkward moment, one viewer shared: “Love Julian Clary giving Lovejoy a good roasting on #SundayBrunch.”

Another added: “Loving @JulianClary ripping the piss out of Simon and Tim (or whoever they are!?) on #SundayBrunch. If he needs a hyena laugh voiceover for his audio books, I think Tim would do a fine job…”

“‘The genius of you two is you’re so ordinary’ Julian Clary reliable as ever to slap Tim and Simon down #SundayBrunch,” a third posted.
