The Irregulars is a retelling of the story of Sherlock Holmes and Watson, delving into the lives of a group of misfits who help with their investigations. But unlike the classic tale, there is some spooky, supernatural phenomenon to also contend with which scared not only the characters but the actors on set as well.

What ‘freaked out’ the cast during filming?

The Irregulars is a new take on the Sherlock Holmes and Watson classic tale but with the focus on the teenagers who assist in cracking the cases.

There aren’t just the typical serial killers to face either as the drama has a supernatural edge that hasn’t been explored before with these iconic characters.

Someone has caused a “rip” in the universe, opening “the barrier between our world and the next”, so it’s more than just villains from this world they have to fight off.

Bringing these elements of the story to life was what left both stars JoJo Macari and Mckell David scared.

When asked if there was anything on set which scared him, actor Macari sarcastically commented: “It was very professional. No pranks, no jumping out, no nothing like that. No way.”

He then went on to say: “I’ll go back to the Jigsaw man, he was pretty freaky…having a coffee with him sat next to you or people in full zombie prosthetic is pretty weird.”

The Jigsaw Man is a deceased person who will be brought back to life thanks to a combination of science and magic.

He will be made up of 16 various body parts which had been stolen from other people.

Actor Mckell David agreed with the supernatural part of the show being the scariest element of filming The Irregulars.

Mckell continued: “From on set it was the prosthetics really that was freaking me out because they looked so real.

“And Lucy [Porter] and her team did such an amazing job but I’m quite a tough nut so I’m quite hard to be scared.

“But the prosthetics were really, really freaky and really really, make your belly curdle a little bit sometimes.”

The One Netflix: How is the series different from the book? [BOOK]

The Irregulars hasn’t yet been released on Netflix with subscribers having to wait a little while longer for the new show.

All eight episodes of the drama are going to be out on Friday, March 26, on the streaming service.

This means fans will be able to binge-watch the entire season over the weekend.

There will be plenty more of the story to tell though as it has already been renewed for a second season.

Even before season one has begun on Netflix, The Irregulars will be getting a series two.

Filming for the first series was delayed thanks to the pandemic but was wrapped up between August and September 2020.

The creators are planning on beginning to shoot the new lot of episodes this summer.

The Irregulars will be available to watch on Netflix.
