The Masked Singer fans have been torn between a handful of suspects for Sausage since the mystery celebrity first took to the stage. Sheridan Smith, Stacey Solomon and Stacey Dooley have all been tipped as the famous face hiding behind the mask but ITV guest judge Alan Carr may have confirmed Sausage’s identity once and for all after detailing his experience on the panel on The One Show.

BBC presenters Alex Jones and Ronan Keenan quizzed Alan who was on the show to promote a new series of Interior Design Masters.

Ronan began: “You might be an award winner but I doubt you’ll get the best guesser. What did you do on The Masked Singer?

“You thought Harlequin was Cheryl. How did you not know it was Gabrielle? What happened?”

“I remember someone telling me in Newcastle there’s a nightclub called Harlequins and I thought Geordie, Cheryl, singer,” the comedian replied.

“Her voice is so distinctive, isn’t it?” Alex remarked and Alan shared: “They said I was the horse last series.

“Have they ever said your name when you’re sitting at home watching it? It’s terrifying.”

“When you’re on the panel, do you get kind of little hints or anything? It is nearly impossible isn’t it, out of context, to think ‘Whose voice is that?'” asked Alex.

Alan confidently replied: “I’m sure Sheridan Smith is Sausage!”

“So am I!” said Jones in agreement. “But then on the weekend, I thought, ‘No it’s not!'”

Alan added: “But then there’s that Legally Blonde big hint in there, wasn’t it? I thought that’s Sheridan Smith when she was on set!

“I used to have a life! I used to go out! It makes my weekend though, The Masked Singer!”

The Gavin and Stacey actress starred in the West End musical version of Legally Blonde from 2009 to 2011.

The Masked Singer fans were convinced Sausage was Sheridan but as the final nears closer, viewers are beginning to change their minds.

One tweeted: “OMG was being patient before but it’s annoying me now. People, you have issues if you think that Sausage is Sheridan Smith #MaskedSingerUK simply listen to Sheridan sing and you will clearly hear, there’s a different sound, tone, resonance and power to that of Sausage. The End.”

“Trying to figure out who Sausage is on @MaskedSingerUK is driving me cuckoo. I am so sure it’s NOT Stacey or Sheridan that if the mask comes off and either of them are standing there I still won’t believe it!

I’m going with Joss Stone #TheMaskedSinger #TheMaskedSingerUK,” another wrote.

“I thought Sheridan Smith now I’m thinking Anastasia is sausage but I’m still going with Sheridan,” a third added.

Someone else shared: “Anyone saying sausage is NOT Sheridan Smith needs to give their head a wobble! It’s common sense!

“I know it’s the wrong night but I want to say this before I forget I thought Sausage was Sheridan Smith, then Stacey Solomon, now I think it’s @JossStone #MaskedSingerUK,” a fifth remarked.

Meanwhile, bookmakers Ladbrokes have predicted Sausage will take the Masked Singer crown.

The meaty character is the favourite to win with odds of 5/4 followed by Robin at 2/1 and Badger at 5/2.

The Masked Singer airs on ITV on Saturday at 7pm.
