Fire consumes residential skyscraper in United Arab Emirates
A raging inferno engulfed a 48-story apartment building in the United Arab Emirates Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of six high rises, according to news reports and dramatic video.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Abbco Tower skyscraper in Sharjah, which could be seen entirely consumed by the fire in footage posted on Twitter.
Officials have not determined the cause of the blaze, but said no casualties or serious injuries were tallied at the residential tower, indianexpress.com reported.
Seven people were treated for minor injuries, according to news reports.
Sharjah Civil Defense officials said they battled both the blaze and falling debris for hours since the fire was reported at 9 p.m. local time.
Completed in 2006, the apartment tower has 47 floors of apartments and a parking garage.
