Police launch desperate hunt for dementia-suffering pensioner, 79, who vanished FOUR days ago after being seen wandering away from his London on CCTV

  • Peter Bennett, 79, was first reported missing from home by his carer on Saturday
  • The pensioner, who speaks with a Newcastle accent, is described as of slim build
  • Video shows him at the junction of Finsbury Road and Trinity Road at 1.37pm 
  • He was wearing black jeans, a yellow and black striped shirt and black shoes 

Police have released CCTV footage of a dementia-stricken pensioner who has been missing since Saturday – as officers say they are ‘very worried’.

Peter Bennett, 79, was reported missing by his carer who arrived at his house in Rosecroft, Finsbury Park, north London, four days ago and found he wasn’t there.

Mr Bennett, who speaks with a Newcastle accent, is described as white, of slim build, with balding grey hair and a beard.

Video shows him at the junction of Finsbury Road and Trinity Road at 1.37pm on Saturday, before he is believed to have walked in the direction of Wood Green High Road.  

At the time of his disappearance he was wearing black jeans, a yellow and black striped shirt, a dark grey jacket and black shoes. He also wears glasses.

Mr Bennett is known to frequent the Wood Green area of Haringey and has historic links to Camden.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley, from the North Area Public Protection Unit, is leading the investigation and has appealed for help from the public.

He said Mr Bennett doesn’t have any of his personal belongings, including vital medication. 

He added: ‘The more time that goes by without a sighting or a trace of Peter, the more concerned we are becoming. 

‘He doesn’t have any of his personal belongings and is badly affected by his dementia. He needs medication which he does not have with him.

‘Since Peter’s disappearance, searches have taken place and extensive enquiries have been completed. Sadly we are no closer to finding him.’

He said the CCTV footage ‘shows Peter was alone, moving slowly and did not appear aware of his surroundings.

‘Another person walked past him and may have seen where he went next. I would appeal for that person to come forward,’ he added.

‘We are very worried. Finding Peter is a top priority and we are asking for the public’s help.’

Anyone who sees Mr Bennett should contact the police immediately on 999. He is likely to need medical assistance and will be confused and disorientated. 

A police spokesman said: ‘Please keep that in mind when approaching him.’

People who live in the Finsbury Park area, or elsewhere in Haringey, are asked to check any doorbell or dash cam footage for sightings.
