Trump uses Roger Stone to call for opening of cold case into Scarborough
President Trump once again Wednesday called for an investigation into MSNBC host “Psycho” Joe Scarborough over the death of an intern in his congressional office nearly 20 years ago, as he teased there may be a new development in the Roger Stone case.
“Roger Stone has been treated very unfairly. How about that jury Forewoman, does anybody think that was fair. DISGRACEFUL! Stay tuned. @FoxNews. And guys like Low Ratings Psycho Joe Scarborough are allowed to walk the streets? Open Cold Case!,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
It’s the third time this month that Trump has implied that the “Morning Joe” host was involved in the 2001 death of Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old intern found dead in Scarborough’s district office in Florida when he was a congressman.
The medical examiner ruled Klausutis’ death accidental, concluding she hit her head on a desk after passing out because of an undiagnosed heart condition.
“When will they open a Cold Case on the Psycho Joe Scarborough matter in Florida. Did he get away with murder? Some people think so,” the president said in a tweet earlier this month.
“Why did he leave Congress so quietly and quickly? Isn’t it obvious? What’s happening now? A total nut job!” Trump added.
Scarborough and the president have been taking shots at each other since Trump entered the White House.
Recently, Scarborough has been critical of Trump’s coronavirus response and the focus the president has put on Obama’s administration for allegedly orchestrating the Russia investigation to discredit his 2016 victory.
On Wednesday’s show, Scarborough noted a report that Trump met Tuesday with Senate Republicans to press for an investigation into Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden.
The MSNBC host said the Trump campaign is “really nervous” over polls that show the president behind in polls in swing states crucial to his re-election.
“And so now Donald Trump is going and asking these poor Senate Republicans who are at risk of losing their own seats to do something that the Attorney general, Donald Trump’s own Roy Cohn refuses to do, and that is to pretend that they committed any crime,” Scarborough said. “Barr said, ‘I’m not going to be investigating Obama or Biden.’ And why did he say that? Because there’s nothing there!”
Stone, a longtime associate of Trump who was convicted lying to Congress and witness tampering last year, said he didn’t receive a fair trial because of anti-Trump bias among the jurors.
“I learned when I got into the DC circuit jury system that I’m not going to be judged by a jury of my peers. I’m going to be judged by people who admit in the jury selection process that they despise Donald Trump. That they want him removed,” Stone said last month.
Stone’s lawyers had asked the federal judge presiding over his case for a new trial because they said the jury forewoman, Tomeka Hart, was biased against Trump and posted on social media about the Russia investigation.
But US District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson, a President Barack Obama appointee, rejected the request and sentenced Stone to more than three years in prison.
