Who is George P. Bush and what did he say about Trump in the 2020 election? – The Sun
GEORGE P. Bush will vote for President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
The Republican revealed on Tuesday he plans to cast his ballot for Trump again, as he did in 2016.
He told the Dallas Morning News he plans to formally endorse the president's reelection amid ongoing tensions between the Bush family and Trump.
Who is George P. Bush?
The 44-year-old corporate lawyer is the son of former Florida Gov Jeb Bush, who unsuccessfully ran against Trump in 2016 to be the Republican presidential candidate.
He's also the grandson of former president George H.W. Bush, whom he's named after, and former first lady Barbara Bush.
He oversees the Texas Land General office, which "manages state lands, operates the Alamo, helps Texans recovering from natural disasters, helps fund Texas public education…and manages the vast Texas coast," according to the agency's website.
The Texas Land Commissioner was first elected to his position in 2014 and reelected in 2018 with Trump's support.
Before entering politics, he served in Afghanistan as a US Naval Reserve officer, worked as a public school teacher, and ran a real-estate private equity firm.
When did he endorse Trump?
Jeb Bush's oldest son first endorsed Trump during the 2016 presidential election.
He urged Texas Republican activists to unite behind Trump in order to defeat Hillary Clinton, although he did note his father's unsuccessful campaign was a "bitter pill to swallow."
"From Team Bush, it's a bitter pill to swallow but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton," Bush said, according to video obtained by CNN.
Their cordial relationship prompted Trump to bring Bush on stage at an April 2019 rally and introduce his former rival's son as "the only Bush who got it right."
On Tuesday, Bush told the Dallas Morning News Trump is "the only thing standing between America and socialism," and confirmed he'll endorse his reelection.
When asked about Trump's presidency to date, Bush said on Tuesday: "It's clear, Republican policies are working."
How is George P Bush related to George W Bush?
George P. Bush is the nephew of 43rd President George W. Bush.
He campaigned for his uncle during the 2000 and 2004 election cycles and supported Bush's position of comprehensive immigration reform.
What is the net worth of the Bush family?
At the time of their deaths in 2018, Barbara and George H.W. Bush each had a reported net worth of $25 million, according to Town & Country.
Heavy.com estimates George W. to have a net worth of $35 million.
Jeb Bush's net worth is reportedly between $19 million and $22 million, but the former politician was paid more than $28 million since leaving office in 2015, according to ThoughtCo.
